Edisto Beach is known to be a family-friendly, nature oriented beach where deer roam freely and the sunsets are magical! Edisto Beach is on the coastal edge of Edisto Island, South Carolina's 3rd largest sea island. The beach is about 3-1/2 miles long and offers some of the best shelling and fossil finding. Edisto is known for its natural beauty, laid-back lifestyle, and lack of commercialization. We do have 16 options for locally-owned restaurants that range from BBQ to southern cooking to fresh local seafood. There are 2 bars that stay open past 10:00pm, but for the most part, all of our local music on the dock at the Marina and various restaurants with live music close around 9:00. This leaves time to get back to your rental and play games, or walk on the beach at night - of course with your 'red' flashlight so as not to confuse the nesting turtles that come to the beach to lay and bury their eggs.
The beach is developed with an eclectic mix of styles of beach houses, and has tidal creeks, rivers, and lagoons running throughout. A wonderful activity is to ride your bike(s) down to the ice cream store, then ride the bike path all around the beach and even across the causeway to the state park trail. Bikes and Golf carts can be rented as well as beach chairs and umbrellas. We have a locally owned company here that will set up chairs and tents for your day on the beach! Edisto Beach is about 40 miles south of Charleston, but yet feels a world away since we do not have any traffic lights or congestion.
